PREP AND CONSEQUENCE
After her 40th birthday, member Molly Rubin was ready to make the next few years the best years. She thought of her kids and grandkids, and decided she wanted to stick around, and play around, for as long as she could.
"I had been struggling with my weight for years," Molly said. "I had tried many things, but none seemed to keep my interest beyond the first few months, and none had the combination of help, with both nutrition and fitness."
Molly signed up for the Club's award-winning Your Body Your Life program in April 2012, where every aspect of weight loss is addressed and conquered. "I hadn't yet suffered any adverse health consequences as a result of my weight, but I knew that odds were, I would soon."
Since Molly joined, she's worked closely with personal trainer Christin Tercek, dietitians Wendy Camaano and Laurelee Misseghers and cardio coach Annelise Digiacomo. "I have learned so many things!" Molly said. "I have sincerely enjoyed working with all four professionals. They all have a different perspective, and have so much knowledge to share.
"Putting them together, you get such a well-rounded approach to weight loss and good health."
During the initial tests that each participant undergoes after joining the program, Molly learned about how her metabolism works, and the heart rate level she needs to reach and maintain during exercise in order to lose weight.
"I used to think I was doing a great job if I just hopped on a treadmill and sweat for 30 minutes. I now have a great understanding of heart-rate zones, how to manage them and how to vary my workouts to achieve optimal health and weight-loss benefits."
As of press time, Molly was down 40 pounds and still working hard toward her goal. She has adjusted her eating habits in a way that has made it easier to stick with the plan, which is half the battle. "The program is excellent in guiding you through the first few weeks, then slowly giving you the freedom to make your own choices and succeed on your own," she said.
Now, Molly is keeping pace with her kids, thanks to her increased energy, but she knows these aren't just temporary changes. "Through working with the staff, I have also come to realize that this is a journey, and to focus on that, rather than the end game. Each day that I make good choices, eat well and exercise is a success and something I am grateful for," Molly said. "I view this as a new way of life; not a six-week solution to a problem."
